“A material flow analysis (MFA) is used to study the material flows and stocks of the subsystem in the six case studies: based on consumption patterns and waste production. A new method is introduced for MFA, the aforementioned Activity Based Spatial Material Flow Analysis (AS-MFA). In this method, the actors involved in the material flows and their activities and interrelations to other actors can be identified and localised (REPAiR 2019, p. 30).
Three results of the of the AS-MFA are specifically crucial input for the PULL workshops:
1. the determination of the material scope;
2. defining the case specific supply chain;
3. quantification and mapping of waste and material flows (REPAiR 2018, p. 25)
