Description
Food waste is a common practice in households, accounting for 23% of the global avoidable food waste. The Flemish Government strives to reduce food waste by 15%. A recent study demonstrates that in Flanders some 37 kg/person/year is wasted. In this context, tools can help the population to improve the management of food at households to reduce wastage.
If food waste cannot be avoided, an optional function for the local exchange of food within the neighbourhood could be added to the app. This should be combined with active campaigning and incentives encouraging households to use the tool.

Objective
This EIS focuses on households, aiming at reducing food ending up in the (residual or VFG) waste bin.
Providing an user-friendly app/tool to facilitate the registration of the amount and nature of food waste is an essential step to change behaviour.
The app should give insights in our waste behaviour by measuring avoidable waste, give tips to change shopping habits and stop us buying food we do not need/use, suggest alternative use for food leftovers, keep track of stock and expiring dates on food products.
